Sometimes the Seat is Moved

In reading an affidavit from the early 1850s, I realized that the county seat of Mercer County, Illinois, was not where it is today. Has the county seat in your county of interest moved?

  1. Not only did the parish seats change, but new parishes were created. Carroll Parish Louisiana split into East Carroll and West Carroll and the southern portion of old Carroll Parish was included into the parish of Richland. I've had to research in three parishes for my family due to these changes.
