If you've got a daughter for an ancestral couple that you can't find and you suspect that she lived to adulthood and married, look closely at the neighboring families in the census.
That married daughter could be "hiding" as the wife a few households away from her parents. Living under her husband's last name it could be that the "missing" daughter is closer than you think.
Great tip that I apply automatically. I chipped away at a family mystery simply by guessing that the Mary next door was my ancestor's ex-wife remarried. Tracking her children led to a death record of a son confirming his mother's maiden name. Cha-ching!
