If you are fortunate enough to have a list of people who purchased property at your ancestor's estate sale, consider locating those people in the decennial census before and after the sale. Where they were from or where they moved to may help you on your ancestor.
Purchasers at estate sales were usually neighbors or relatives of the deceased.
Hello,
ReplyDeletePlease, what does "decennial census" mean? I have someone who bought "the family home" in c. 1951, Kerry, Ireland which was "run down" due to lack of paying the taxes.
And, I do not understand how my grfa. could have let the property run down and not pay the taxes on the property? He lived in Canada. Could this have been the reason? Could the taxes be too high to pay??
Thank you.
