If the Story Were True...

When trying to "prove" that family tradition, ask yourself what records would have been generated if it were true. And, when you are looking for those records and analyzing the information that they contain, keep yourself open to the possibility that the story may not even be true at all.

  1. Sometimes the 'stories' (family lore) are so fun or funny, I hate it when I disprove them!

  2. And sometimes they get mixed up. The story was the ancestors were on the Mayflower & had their names removed from the list for being thieves. Actually the ancestor was banished from Scotland by Oliver Cromwell.
