Unidentified Pictures?

This is your periodic reminder--do you have photographs with unidentified people in them? When was the last time you asked around as to who they might be?

And do you have pictures with people you know, but where you have not noted the identities on the photo? Don't let these pictures become future unknowns.

  1. I love old photos. I have a 19th century family photo album. I only wish they wrote the names of the people in the photo somewhere.

  2. Looking, and I mean really looking at photos can give you clues as to when the photo was taken which may help identify the people in the photo. Certain customs often are followed that are clues to age, in my case my grandfather was yet a boy, he had recently been confirmed because he wore long pants in a formal setting, usually you wore short pants for such things as photographs until you were confirmed in the church. Watches hanging from watch chains, usually exposed to give a sense of wealth and prosperity, sometimes can be identified as they are often an item that was handed down. The chains can be probably a better marker than the watch itself since they are easier to see differences in the way they are constructed. Stylized clothing often can be more closely identified including shoes. As the saying goes, the devil is in the details!
