Do You Map Out Their Farms?

If your ancestor was a land-owning farmer, have you mapped out the property he owned? Can you find the current location on a map? What are the nearest churches, cemeteries, schools, etc.? If you don't think about where the farm was at, you may overlook some records or research strategies.

  1. You may also overlook relatives living and farming in the same area. It's only when I plotted out my grandfather's homestead that I realized all the farms around his were homesteaded by his siblings, parents, in-laws, and neighbors that came to New Mexico at the same time from Ohio. Very enlightening. Linda
