A Rood is not a Rod with An Extra "O"

A rod is a unit of measure of length equal to 16.5 feet. A rood is a unit of measure for  to 1/4 of an acre.
Rod is for linear measure and a rood is for area measure.

  1. I've never noticed "rood" in a deed before, but I'll bet next time I'm reading in a deed book the word will be there!

  2. I never heard of a "rood" before either, but I am familiar with "rod". When I was fencing some land I bought years ago my dad said to space the fence posts a rod apart and that way they come out even for a quarter, half or full section.
