Don't assume that a bride or a groom was only married one time. That marriage when great-grandpa was 24 might not have been his first. And the maiden name for great-graandma on her marriage when she was 26 might not have been her real maiden name. She easily could have been married for the first time when she was 23.
Nice reminder! Also do not assume that if the husband died early on, that the wife did not marry a second time. I had the hardest time finding a great grandmother in the census until I finally stumbled upon a paper - a draft registration to be specific - which listed his mother's name. It was not a name I recognized. After some digging, I found her to have remarried.
