Certain customs often are followed that are clues to age, in my case my grandfather was yet a boy, he had recently been confirmed because he wore long pants in a formal setting, usually you wore short pants for such things as photographs until you were confirmed in the church. Watches hanging from watch chains, usually exposed to give a sense of wealth and prosperity, sometimes can be identified as they are often an item that was handed down. The chains can be probably a better marker than the watch itself since they are easier to see differences in the way they are constructed. Stylized clothing often can be more closely identified including shoes. As the saying goes, the devil is in the details!
