Any record that is an extract or a transcript of the original can easily contain errors. Extract can have omissions. A reader reminded me that the compiled military service records at the National Archives are not original records---but are in fact compiled or derivative materials.
Anything that's not the original is not the original and may contain errors or omissions.
I have my ancestors Compiled Military Service Record. Can I orders copies of the original or would I have to visit the National Archives?
