Collaborate With Non-Relatives?

When looking for others with whom to collaborate on your research, keep in mind that there may be researchers "outside of your biological family" who may be able to assist you. Descendants of step-ancestors, in-laws, and close neighbors may have information directly related to your research or have information about sources that you have not yet accessed.

  1. It's the only way to go! I received a photo of my paternal great-great-grandparents from a descendent of their daughter-in-law's family! My father had never seen them; he was so happy. The pay off's can be huge when taking advantage of sharing information.

  2. I'm one of those curious folks interested in my family's neighbors. I've helped several people who had ancestors in my home community. As I read the county records looking for my people, I see the neighbors in the records.
